The Liebster Award: HugeParty Travel Accepts!

The Liebster Award: I got nominated, here's my response and my own nominations

Portjam & Co. nominated me for a Liebster Award, and I graciously accept the nomination, and will look to pay it forward as well!
For those of you that don't know, the Liebster Award is a for bloggers to recognize the efforts other bloggers by giving them a shoutout and helping drive traffic to their sites. I had been hoping to get big enough to be recognized out there, and now I intend to pay it forward by nominating other bloggers as well! The world of blogging is pretty crowded, and it's always good to get help from other bloggers in the world! Without further explanation, check out my responses below, as well as the people I've nominated! Cheers!
Now, as part of my nomination, I have to answer the questions Portjam posed. And without further ado, here are my answers:
  1. What is your most memorable meal abroad? I vividly recall an amazing meal this past winter in Montego Bay, Jamaica at "Scotchies". We paid a taxi to take us out of town and wait for us, over-indulged on more food than the two of us could eat, and covered everything with Scotch-Bonnet Pepper Sauce, soooo tasty and tongue-piercing. Jerk Chicken and Pork are high on my list of favorite foods as a result, but unfortunately nothing I've tried since has topped that dinner.
  2. If you could go 10 years back in time, what advice would you give yourself? Save more to travel! And start traveling now! I always used my vacation days for "Staycations", what an idiot!
  3. What is your favorite memory while traveling abroad? Oktoberfest 2013. Waiting in line for 4 hours, sitting at a table for 2 hours, and after nearly 6 hours of waiting for that first beer it was glorious. The opening day of Oktoberfest should be a bucket list item for anyone who enjoys being fun.
  4. Where would you recommend if someone asked you where they should visit? Why? London. So much variety, great neighborhood vibe, rising food and drinking scene, plenty of tourist and local stuff to do. Plus, so many options to fly in and visit their neighbors (cheaply).
  5. Is there a place you’ve traveled to you’d rather not return to? Rome. Never again. Too touristy. Too crowded. Too hot. Never again.
  6. What made you start blogging? I felt like I had a niche that not really that many people were covering, and I was always giving people advice about the trips I was taking. Plus, I needed a hobby outside of the sports and charity work I am doing.
  7. What advice would you give to other new bloggers? Set a schedule of posts for the entire year, and stick to it. I do two per month, that's it. Keeps it in the "hobby" category, and doesn't make me get frantic about content, as the 3-4 trips per year along with the Chicago Local posts I do keep enough content for the entire year.
  8. Who is the biggest inspiration for your blog? Traveling Ted inspired me to create the blog, he's a friend and fellow softball player. The biggest inspiration are the people I meet along the way while traveling. It's always fun to talk about new experiences and show-off the things you've done.
  9. Would you rather be a nomad or an expat? Expat. I could settle in another city abroad, and like to have roots somewhere. The nomadic lifestyle doesn't appeal to me, I always find myself yearning for my own pillow and shower at the end of long trips. Plus, being an expat potentially suggests I'd be at a job with expat benefits, and those perks are killer.
  10. What is your next travel destination? Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Phuket & Bangkok! Through Christmas and NYE. Gonna be a HugeParty for sure!

I nominate these awesome people for the Liebster award!

  1. Vlad @ Eff It I'm On Holiday
  2. Kim @ Extraordinary Experiences
  3. Greg @ Greg Was There
  4. Joe @ Joeography
  5. The Crew @ Lost Tribe Magazine
And last but not least, here are the questions I’m posing to the nominees above. Of course, since this is HugeParty Travel, the questions may seem a bit different than the questions I had to answer. Enjoy:
  1. In what city have you gotten a little reckless with the nightlife?
  2. What's the most memorable alcoholic drink you've had abroad?
  3. Have you been to any cultural or music festivals? If so, what was your favorite and why?
  4. Where do you live now? Why should someone visit your city?
  5. What tips to you have for people to fight hangovers, jet-lag, or exhaustion while traveling?
  6. What city has the best food scene?
  7. What "non-tourist" activity do you try to do on trips?
  8. What's the craziest/most adventurous thing you've done on vacation?
  9. What is your next travel destination?
